The Inexhaustible Glory of Christ

Steven Lee

Pastor for Preaching & Vision

Dear North Family,

One hypothetical question came to mind recently. Someone might wonder why we make such a big deal of Jesus at Christmas. Why do we celebrate it every year? One answer is that the glories of the incarnation are inexhaustible. There is more to see every year! There is more to celebrate!

There is more to grasp with the eyes of faith. Jesus came in mercy and meekness as the Messiah to make all things right. We will spend all our earthly lives marveling at the incarnation and celebrate anew and afresh when we enter Christ’s eternal kingdom. The glories of Christ, the incarnation, and his death and resurrection will never grow old or stale. His mercies and our wonder are to be new every morning. So as we celebrate Christ once again, may we see his glory, feel his presence, and celebrate his work on our behalf. And may we share this good news of great joy with others still wandering in deep darkness.

Below are various things to note between now and Christmas.

Christmas Eve Services | This year we will hold services at 3, 5, and 10pm on Tuesday, December 24. The services at 3 and 5pm will be similar, incorporating congregational carols, choirs, and candle lighting, and I’ll share a devotional message. We’ll have cookies available after these services. Please note that no nursery care will be provided.

The 10pm service will be simpler—carols, candle lighting, strings, and solos with additional Scripture readings and the same devotional message. Our hope is to center our hearts' affections and minds' attention on Christ. More info can be found at thenorthchurch.com/christmas.

Annual Meeting Update | At our annual meeting, the congregation affirmed Vince Johnson to serve as an elder and reaffirmed several other elders and administrative positions. Thank you for your continued participation in the life of the church. We hope to share an Annual Report with the congregation in February.

Year-End Financial Update | Please pray for our church’s year-end provision and read a financial update from Pastor Jon Grano. We know that God makes grace abound to us so that we, having all sufficiency in all things, can abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8). Thank you for regularly giving and praying, and ask God to supply all our needs according to his riches in Christ. We have approximately $400K remaining to cover our estimated 2024 ministry expenses, and $650K needed by year-end (12/31) to meet our budget and replenish operating reserves to start 2025 strong financially. May God continue to enable grace-driven generosity for his glory.

Merry Christmas,

Pastor Steven
