“But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hand.”
—Psalm 31:14–15a

Dear North family,

In Psalm 31 David is crying out to the Lord for mercy and deliverance at a time of intense pressure and persecution. He specifically expresses his fears, sorrows and weariness to the Lord. David then turns from the overwhelming realities of his situation, and he looks back to the LORD’s strength and steadfastness. Rehearsing these unchanging truths causes David to rejoice in the midst of his affliction.

In Psalm 31:14–15a, we see this remarkable shift in David’s conversation with the Lord: “But I trust in you, O LORD; I say,“You are my God. My times are in your hand.”  David moves from anguish to assurance. His distress turns to worship and prayer as he recalls what the Lord has done in the past and promises to do in the future. David’s declaration of trust in God acknowledges God’s sovereignty over both the span of his life and the moment by moment realities of his life.

As believers we have many daily opportunities to grow in trusting God’s plans for situations in our lives, and turning to the Lord in our fears and trials. May our hearts more readily turn to prayer and worship when we face uncertainty and fear, and would God strengthen us to trust him and say with David, “My times are in your hand.”

‍Our Women’s Ministry theme for the year is My Times Are In Your Hand. As part of the body of The North Church you can pray for the women involved in these different ministries and invite women you know to join us.
