Thanksgiving Continued

Dear North Family,

Thank you to those who joined us at our Thanksgiving Eve Service last week. It was a sweet time to gather, worship, and share testimonies of what God has done. Thank you to those who brought pie; we had more than enough! By the way, if you see the following people, be sure to thank them for cutting and plating several hundred slices of pie all evening and facilitating the clean up as well: Grace Ohlendorf, Jim and Carmen Tomaszewski, Millie Roberts, Claire Olson, Diane Soderholm, Sterling Harer, and Ryan Soderholm.

I am thankful to God for the testimonies that were shared. It was sweet to hear of God’s power to rescue us out of darkness into his marvelous light. It was also good to hear how he uses weak vessels for his saving purposes in the lives of others. And it was sobering to hear and see steadfastness and patient endurance amid prolonged suffering. I also know those three testimonies are not the only ones we have among us.

We each have stories of God’s faithfulness, sustaining grace, saving work, and comfort amid hardships and trials. Find opportunities to encourage others in their faith as you tell of God’s grace. And invite others to share how God has met and sustained them this year. Even though Thanksgiving is in the rearview mirror, our hearts of thanksgiving remain year-round.

In Psalm 107, the Psalmist declares: “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble” (Ps 107:1–2). The redeemed—those who have been forgiven and paid for—are to give thanks for God’s goodness and steadfast love. Why? Because it’s the fitting outward expression of having experienced God’s love and grace. You get to tell someone else about his goodness.

Four different times in Psalm 107 this phrase is repeated: “Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Ps 107:8, 15, 21, 31). “Thank you, Jesus” is to be the symphony of our souls and the melody of our hearts. May we grow increasingly thankful for God, for the gift of his Son Jesus, for one another, and for another year to treasure Christ in all of life.

With thanksgiving for you all,

Pastor Steven
