Pam Larson’s Retirement and a Word on Recent Events

Steven Lee
Pastor for Preaching & Vision
Dear North Church,
Pam Larson has shared with me and the elders that she will retire in January 2026 after fifteen years of serving at The North Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church, the last ten years as the Director for Women’s Ministry. She is stepping away to devote more of her time and energy to be with her husband, Barry, to be available to their children and grandchildren, both nearby and out of state, and to do more short-term mission trips overseas (this summer she went to Sweden and Ethiopia).
Pam has been a tremendous gift to me, to our staff team, and to the women of The North Church. She has been a terrific team player. She has led wisely, graciously, and thoughtfully. She has written many Bible studies, empowered and encouraged other women in service, and modeled godliness. She has worked hard to serve the women of The North Church. She has been a listening ear for many, an encourager to the downtrodden, and a peacemaker.
Pam leads well in a thousand ways. She ably teaches God’s word to women. She possesses a heart of compassion for others. She is eager to help and to serve. I remember when we first moved back to Minnesota, she offered to babysit our children despite all the things she had on her plate. She treasures Christ and seeks to lead others to do the same through her ministry.
I have personally witnessed her husband, Barry, openly praise her with tears of thanksgiving. I join him in expressing my thanksgiving for Pam in her decade of service to this church. I am so grateful for Pam and Barry, for Pam’s labors and leadership, and for her love for Christ and his church. I praise God for Pam Larson!
Since Pam will not be officially retiring until January 2026, we will share more information about a formal celebration closer to that time. In the meantime, be praying for the women’s ministry and the upcoming transition.
I know for many, the key question is, “Who will replace Pam and serve as the Director for Women’s Ministry?” Thankfully, Pam informed me of her intention several months ago. The elders and I have been praying, thinking, and strategizing how best to fill this role. By God’s grace, we believe he has answered those prayers. God has been gracious to lead and guide us.
I plan to send an email on Monday to share more about the plan and person I believe God has provided for The North Church as we look forward to the future of women’s ministry. In the meantime, join me in giving thanks for God’s good provision to us through Pam, and join me in continuing to pray for God’s good provision for a Pastor for Children and Families as well.
Regarding the Politically Motivated Assassination of Charlie Kirk
The assassination of Charlie Kirk is a shocking and disturbing moment in our country. It is a reminder that spiritual evil and wickedness are present in our world. Our nation groans under the weight of sin, violence, evil, mental disorders, and moral chaos. Furthermore, our political system is deeply broken, our world is deeply polarized, and the rage continues to grow. I am no political theorist. I don’t know how to solve our political division. But let me share a few words as your pastor.
Pray. Pray for Charlie Kirk’s family. Pray for justice. Pray for peace. Pray for an end to the violence and insanity. Pray for God’s mercy on this nation.
Stand. Do not shrink back from being salt and light. Shine all the more by speaking truth in love. “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven” (Matt 5:11–12).
Resist. Resist the temptation to repay evil with evil. Resist returning violence with violence. “Vengeance is mine; I will repay,” says the Lord (Heb 10:30). Resist cynicism, indifference, fear, or despair. Resist the lies of this age. Expose the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them (Eph 5:11).
Look to Jesus. In the midst of confusion, remember 2 Chronicles 20:12, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” Keep looking to Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who alone can bring hope, healing, and wholeness to our broken world. Pray for salvation and spiritual revival. I’m reminded of the words of “Is He Worthy?” by Chris Tomlin:
Do you feel the world is broken? (We do)
Do you feel the shadows deepen? (We do)
But do you know that all the dark won't stop
The light from getting through? (We do)
Do you wish that you could see it, all made new? (We do)
Is all creation groaning? (It is)
Is a new creation coming? (It is)
Is the glory of the Lord to be
The light within our midst? (It is)
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? (It is)
Sorrowful yet rejoicing,
Pastor Steven
