Global Focus 2025

Nick Whitehead

Dear North family,

Global Focus starts this Sunday (Oct 26)! Our theme this year is Kernel to Kingdom: Sowing Seeds for a Global Harvest, and I am eager for us to consider together how our small steps of faithfulness now could play a role in reaping a global harvest for the kingdom.

I am excited for one of our former global partners to Japan, Jonathan Reasoner, to open God’s word and preach to us from 1 Corinthians 3 on the first Sunday (Oct 26). On the second Sunday (Nov 2) Pastor Steven will take us back into Matthew to explore the parables of the mustard seed and the leaven. On both Sundays global partners will lead us in our prayer of praise and there will be opportunities to engage with our global partners in the Commons after the services.

I would also encourage you to attend my two favorite global events of the year:

  1. The first is our Global Focus Connection event on Wednesday, Oct 29. As is our pattern, we will be cancelling all other classes that night so that everyone can participate in this evening of interactive exhibits, worship, and reflection on God’s work among the nations. There will be a meal served starting at 4:45pm, exhibits will be open from 5:15-6:15pm and 7pm-8:15pm, and we will all gather together for worship and a missionary biography from 6:15-7pm.
  1. The second is our annual Stories From the Field event on Saturday, Nov 1. All are encouraged to attend in the chapel from 10am-12pm to hear about what God is doing around the world through some of our global partners.

As we walk through this week of intentional focus on God’s heart for the nations, I would not be surprised if the Spirit begins to nudge some of us towards increasing involvement as pray-ers, senders, or go-ers. If you feel the Lord’s nudging, I would encourage you to test that by attending one or any of these events as they pertain to you:

  • Missions Exploration Lunch (Sun, Nov 2, 12:30–1:30pm, Room C400): Join us for lunch as we conclude Global Focus so we can meet you and share time together thinking about the calling to go to the nations with the gospel. I would especially encourage attendance for anyone who is considering long-term missions work. I will be taking time to introduce The Sending Pathway—the process we will use at The North Church to assess, develop, affirm, and send out some of our own members to serve as long-term vocational gospel workers among the nations.
  • Ropeholders: Upholding Global Partners (Mon, Nov 3, 10am–12pm, Room A202): Join this gathering of women as they seek to “hold the ropes” for those sent out for the sake of the name of Jesus, bringing their needs to God in prayer. This is a great opportunity for women of any age to play a strategic role in praying for and caring for our Global Partner women and their families. This month the group will spend time with global partner Monica Larson.
  • College/Young Adult Missions Night (Tue, Nov 4, 5:30-9pm, Chapel): All college students and young adults (age 18-30) are invited to join us for food, fellowship, and teaching as we consider our participation in God’s redemptive plan for the nations.

May the Lord do his work among us this week, that we might be freshly stirred to participate in his global mission. At times the work seems slow and our labors seem small, but he is building his global church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

For the King and his global kingdom,

Pastor Nick
