Easter Afterglow

Steven Lee
Pastor for Preaching & Vision
Dear North Church,
After a busy weekend with Good Friday and Easter Sunday, I feel a deep sense of gratitude.
First, I am grateful for the reality of the resurrection. We need not fear because Jesus is risen from the dead (Matt 28:5–6). The claws and grip of death were powerless to hold Jesus down (Acts 2:24). Death has been defeated so that it has no more victory (1 Cor 15:54–55). Jesus declares: “Fear not…. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades” (Rev 1:17–18). Praise God for raising Jesus from the dead and for how one day we will rise with Christ to everlasting life!
Second, I am grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who served with joy this weekend. Thank you to our elders, deacons, choir, worship team, instrumentalists, audio-visual teams, custodians, kitchen volunteers, welcomers, greeters, ushers, prayers, and dozens of others who enabled this weekend of praise and worship. I am grateful for how everyone serves with hearts that desire to honor Christ. I am grateful for the skills and excellence with which each serves. And I’m grateful for those who put their time, energy, money, and gifts at the disposal of Christ’s church to help us celebrate Christ’s victorious resurrection.
Third, I am grateful for how many of you invited friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers to join us over this weekend. High school students invited friends to their RISEN evangelistic event. Pastor Jason Vaden and a dozen young adults canvassed a local community to join us this weekend. I know dozens of people brought unbelieving family and friends to join us on Good Friday and Easter. We had ~1200 people at our two Good Friday services and ~1960 people at our three Easter Services, and an additional ~270 at our sunrise service! Pray for the seeds of the gospel that were planted, and may the Lord cause his word to accomplish all of his good purposes.
Fourth, I am so grateful for the testimonies of God’s saving grace in the eight baptisms that took place this weekend. Here are the links to the testimony videos, so that you can watch the ones you missed and be edified by God’s work of salvation (Lena Manzanarez, Joy DeWire, Moriah Musselman, Andrew Hoffman, Anne Chacko, Nathan Sorley, Eden Vaden, Michal Vaden ).
Lastly, thank you for your prayers for me, for our choirs and worship teams, for Christ to be honored and glorified, and for some to be saved. We believe that God has been working, is working, and will continue to work in drawing people to himself. May we have the sweet privilege of welcoming the lost, loving the outcast, helping the burdened, praying for the resistant, studying with the curious, and sharing with the seeking.
May Christ continue to receive all glory and honor even as we bask in the afterglow of Easter and head into summer. Let’s be on the lookout for how God is working in the lives of those around us.
Thanking God for his grace,
Pastor Steven
