Bible Reading & What We Believe Class

Steven Lee
Pastor for Preaching & Vision
Dear North Family,
As the new year approaches, we have two opportunities to set our affections on Christ. The first is to consider participating in a Bible reading plan. We want to see more of Jesus in and through his word. We want to be a people that bleeds Bible when cut. We want to be a Bible-saturated people who are steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord. We want to be Psalm 1 men and women who yield fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.
One of the primary ways we can do this is through a regular Bible intake plan—reading, listening, meditating, memorizing, and studying God’s word. The Bible reveals God’s glorious plan of salvation. It dispels the lies of Satan and our worldly age. It imparts grace and peace, and gives us comfort and joy as we cleave to Christ’s promises. It sanctifies, washing us in the word so that we continually become more like Jesus. It shows us what the blessed life is truly like. It protects and guards us from error—admonishing, rebuking, and convicting us of sin. It sets forth the glories of heaven and the reward that awaits Jesus’ disciples. God’s word gives us life.
Therefore, let us take and read, delighting ourselves in the Lord, cleaving to his promises, looking to his wisdom, reassuring our hearts with his grace, and allowing his new mercies to minister to us each morning.
Begin (or continue) a Bible reading plan this year. I plan to read the Discipleship Journal Plan in 2025. For those who struggle with consistency, I commend this plan to you as it provides “catch-up” days and readings from four different places in the Bible. If you use the YouVersion Bible app, you can use the app to track your progress in the Discipleship Journal Plan and even invite friends to read with you. Whatever plan you choose, make a plan to be Bible-saturated in 2025.
What We Believe Class
The second opportunity is the What We Believe class offered by Pastor Josh Bremerman. This eight-week class will be on Wednesday evenings from 7–8pm, beginning January 8. The class will teach through our Elder Affirmation of Faith and cover the following topics: (1) the Bible, (2) God, (3) humanity, (4) Jesus, (5) salvation, (6) how we live and grow, (7) the Church, and (8) the Church’s mission and the end of all things.
The class will have various teachers and will encourage readings between the class sessions. We’ll have limited space for this class but we hope a dozen folks will join us. It’s designed for those who are newer to faith, still seeking and wanting to learn more, or older believers who want to go deeper. You can register here.
Preaching Update | This Sunday, December 29, Pastor Jason Vaden will conclude 2024 by helping us focus on prayer from Luke 18:1–8. In 2025, we’ll resume our series in the Sermon on the Mount:
- January 5: Matthew 5:13–16 Pastor Steven
- January 12: Matthew 5:17–20 Pastor Steven
- January 19: Matthew 5:21–26 Pastor Nick
- January 26: Matthew 5:27–37 Pastor Steven
Year-End Financial Update | Lastly, let me ask you to continue to pray for our church’s year-end provision and read a financial update from Pastor Jon. We know everything belongs to God: “For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10). We know that God makes grace abound to us so that we, having all sufficiency in all things, can abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8). Thank you for regularly giving and praying, and asking God to supply all our needs according to his riches in Christ. We have $250K remaining to cover our estimated 2024 ministry expenses, and $500K needed by year-end (12/31) to meet our budget and replenish operating reserves to start 2025 strong financially. May God continue to enable grace-driven generosity for his glory.
See you in 2025!
Pastor Steven
