Aftermath of Awaken

Steven Lee

Pastor for Preaching & Vision

Dear North Church,

I shared the following reflections with the elders on Tuesday night in the aftermath of our middle and high school Awaken retreat:

There is a war being waged for the hearts and minds of children. Millions of children have been killed in the place that should be the safest for them: their mother’s womb. Our culture continues to trample on the value of life with abortion and euthanasia. If the child lives, they will be hammered with transgender ideology and sexual revolution ethics that will confuse them and potentially damage them irreversibly. This system of beliefs is demonic and evil, and it’s sadly pushed by teachers and medical professionals. Pornography, divorce, educational indoctrination, and technological overload will continue to wage war against the minds and hearts of children.

Yet by God’s grace, we had 188 high school and middle schoolers worshiping Jesus at church over the weekend. We had tremendous pastors serving them: Jon Nowlin, Ben Katterson, Josh Bremerman, and Dan Holst. Many opened their homes to host. We have amazing volunteers working with our young people. Pastor Josh taught on Isaiah 6! I’m in awe at the riches that we have here. Don’t take this for granted.

Within our congregation are the future leaders of families, businesses, the country, and the church. Right now, we have an opportunity to evangelize, disciple, and establish our young people so that they will be faithful and fruitful for generations to come. God is establishing oaks of righteousness, plantings of the Lord, that he may be glorified. So let’s invest in this next generation.

Join me in continuing to pray for our children, youth, and young adults. Pray that the messages will take root and bear good fruit. Satan hates to see a generation that loves and obeys Jesus. Yet, God is doing a good work here among our children, youth, and young adults. Let your faithful labors, generosity, and prayers be fuel on the fire of this growing movement that will make much of Christ in all of life.

Invitation to Pray for Persecuted Christians

Some may be aware of recent news (Associated Press article ) detailing the arrests of 30 pastors and members of Zion Church, one of the largest house church networks in China. One of our regular attendees is from this church network in China, having sought asylum in the US because of religious persecution. Her husband remains in China, attending the underground seminary.

We invite you to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world, especially for members of the Zion Church. Ask the Lord to give them perseverance and hope, and pray for spiritual revival in China. Pastor Nick invites any interested to join him this Sunday at 12:30 pm, following the second service in the Prayer Room, to pray for these fellow believers.

Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing,

Pastor Steven
