A Season of Invitation

Steven Lee
Pastor for Preaching & Vision
Dear North Church,
Advent is a celebration and anticipation of the good news of great joy that is for all people (Luke 2:10). Understandably, Christmas is the favorite holiday of many. Yet, there are still many dwelling in deep darkness. People are searching, seeking, looking, and longing. Many want meaning, hope, and transcendence. They want joy, significance, and community. Yet, no matter where they look, they cannot find it.
I recently read an article written by a former Mormon woman, titled, “Americans Haven’t Found a Satisfying Alternative to Religion: Is it any wonder the country is revisiting faith?” She concludes that perhaps culture is shifting to be more religious. There are more and more secular people who are considering the question of faith, reading the Bible, and visiting churches.
With this in mind, let’s be bold in inviting others to consider Christ this Christmas. Let’s share this good news of great joy. Let’s not hide this light under a bushel. Let’s invite friends, neighbors, and coworkers to consider the truth of Jesus. Most Sundays, I meet those who are seeking to know the truth. Many want to know if the Bible is true. They want to experience the love and community of Christ.
So let us invite others to come and behold the goodness, glory, and love of Christ this Christmas. Perhaps the Lord will use our prayers, invitations, acts of kindness, service, and befriending to draw many to himself this Christmas. Let’s be unashamed and unembarrassed about sharing this good news of great joy for all people. And may the Lord do far more than we can ask or imagine for his glory and our ever-increasing joy in Jesus.
Christmas Eve Services | This year, we have Christmas Eve services at 3, 5, and 10pm on Wednesday, December 24. The services at 3 and 5 will be similar, incorporating congregational carols, choirs, and candle lighting, and I’ll share a devotional message. We’ll have cookies and cider available after these services. Please note that no nursery care will be provided. The 10pm service will be simpler—carols, candle lighting, strings, and solos with additional Scripture readings and a similar message from Pastor Sam. More info can be found at thenorthchurch.com/christmas.
Annual Meeting Update | At our annual meeting this past Sunday, the congregation called Andrew Cagle to serve as the Pastor for Children and Families. We praise God for calling him to serve The North Church! Andrew will begin on staff on January 11. In the meantime, be praying for Andrew, Hannah, and their two daughters as they say goodbye to their current church family and begin to transition to The North Church.
Year-End Financial Update | Please join us in praying for our church’s year-end provision and read a financial update from Pastor Jon Grano. We know that God makes grace abound to us so that we, having all sufficiency in all things, can abound in every good work (2 Cor 9:8). Thank you for regularly giving and praying for God to supply all our needs according to his riches in Christ. We have approximately $350K remaining to cover our estimated 2025 ministry expenses, and $650K is needed by year-end (12/31) to meet our budget and ensure operating reserves are replenished to start 2026 financially strong, with any overage designated to accelerate mortgage reduction. May God continue to enable generosity at The North Church for his glory.
Christ has come, Christ is coming again,
Pastor Steven
